The moment our headlights met
A little detail from the main map that took me through America summer 2013. May 28, trevor met us in a strange little camping spot outside of Memphis near Graceland. There was nothing graceful other than the soft spoken southern accent of the campground host Tom. With gigantic Copperheads around, we collected firewood and slept soundly in our vehicles after a few beers.

Reminder for this weekends Art/Book fair and my photography bookmaking workshop at the Vancouver Art Gallery.
The workshop is FREE on SUNDAY 6th at 3:30PM at Room 100 (next to Admin Reception)
I will be talking about the complete process of making, publishing and learning to love your own book.
How to survive a digital world with paper products and how it can be used in conjunction with digital media.

I made a photogrphy book about something…Big deal..not really..
Well it sort of was a big deal when the idea first grazed my mind and by grazed I mean, ripped the thick Turk of a hair right out of my skull in a Bourbon drenched night at Ganev’s loft in Old Montreal.
Never had an idea hurt before. the good old physical pain. the kind that reminds you of your importance and If I’ve learned anything about the importance of pain from my history teacher in highschool, it is that she was unfathomably boring and will forever be single, which is more pain than you and I can handle. This makes her pain immutable and forever, sort of like how my book should be.
There are two kinds of pain however. The one of which you will hear in depth from athletes on the green, soldiers at war, and the anthelopes in the Serengeti. It is no use to write about that pain as I have not been to war or even ran a marathon or even grown hooves in the plains. I will talk about the other one, the one that is on the pages of white.
I have dealt with that pain to an extend. Even though sometimes it burps out of my dreams to slap me across the face again, i have learned to turn the other cheek so that it will snap my head back in the direction i once was looking.
What I will ask from you is simple.
Come be the anthelope with me..
I will be giving a talk about my journey from the first photograph to the realization and printing of my book during the Vancouver Art/Book Fair 2013.
All this will take place Sunday October the 6th at 3:00pm at the Annex of Vancouver Art Gallery.

“Humidity and darkness are very important elements in photography, so you have to be careful with digital cameras because they sort of kill those elements, I say. I, too, use them, sort of recording things in everyday life for fun, though.
Photography needs to be sentimental. That dry brightness that digital cameras create, that’s not sentimental at all. Colors created with the three primary colors have a very simple impact, but there’s a melancholy at the same time. Colors don’t turn out the way you want them to be, that’s what so good about them.
Perfect colors are not to be researched like that. For example, red. Red of the first menstrual period. The red sky during war. Vague reds and seeping red. The perfect red is different in everyone.
Digital cameras easily ignore those sorts of delicate senses and feelings of Japanese coloring. To be extreme, you look at black and say, it’s red. That’s art. Creating ripples among people is what art does and its the density of art, but before that, you have to feel the ripple in yourself.
It’s not exciting because there are stupid guys that ignore that, trying to figure out how to create real colors. They say, ‘If you use this digital camera, you can take a clear picture in the dark’. The dark should stay dark. You can’t really see that much, and you don’t really want to see that much anyway.”
